EDITH BECKWITH It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Edith Beckwith on July 23, 2008, at the Grace Hospital, at the age of 96 - two weeks short of her 97th birthday. Edith was born in Winnipeg on August 10, 1911 to Jack and Edith Annie Beckwith and, although she travelled extensively, Winnipeg was always her home. She worked at Eaton's for 45 years, walking daily to work from her home on Simcoe Street. Edith was a woman of many talents, particularly her dressmaking skills, making most of her own clothes plus wedding and bridesmaids dresses for her great nieces. Knitting and crocheting were her passions and all her walls were adorned with her exquisite petit-point pictures. Gardening was another of Edith's loves, while on Simcoe street, her backyard was like a park, full of flowers and vegetables. She continued her gardening on her balcony at Ashbury Place. Edith was also an avid golfer and lawn bowler. Edith was predeceased by her parents, siblings Elsie Nelson, Gertrude Duckworth, Christiana Beckwith, Thomas Beckwith and Charles Beckwith. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. At her request, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Edith's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 6, in the clubroom at Ashbury Place, 299 Queen Street. The family wishes to express special thanks to Edith's many friends at Ashbury Place, and to Neil Bardal Inc., for their help, support and kindness.
