Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEARLE B. POLLARD 1924 - 2008 Dad passed peacefully, on September 7, 2008 at the Riverview Health Centre at the age of 84, surrounded by his family. Earle was predeceased by his parents Wilbur and Alita Pollard and grandson Colin. He is survived by his wife Marjorie; children, Glen (Pam), Diane, Elaine (Jean) and grandchildren, Christopher, Shelagh, Dustin, Riley, Alec, Zachary and Jenna; brothers Doug (Ann) and Lawrie (Fran) and many nieces and nephews. Earle was born in Winnipeg at the old Grace Hospital on March 9, 1924 and grew up in River Heights where he graduated from Kelvin High School. He continued his education at the University of Manitoba and upon graduation in 1947 with his BCom he joined the staff of the Hudson Bay Company and became a buyer and department manager. In 1951 he joined the family firm of Saults and Pollard, now Pollard Banknote, where he worked in management and cost accounting until his retirement in 1989. Earle was a strong believer in giving back to his community and was involved in volunteer activities all his life. His community service work included School Trustee of Fort Garry School Division, President of the Fort Garry Home and School Association, President of University Alumni Association, University of Manitoba Senate and Board of Governors, Vice president of the Children's Aid Society of Winnipeg, Board of Health Sciences Centre, Canadian Paraplegic Society, Interfaith Pastoral Institute and on the advisory committee of Red River College. In recognition of a lifetime of service to the Province and the University he was awarded the University of Manitoba's Distinguished Service Award in 1982. He was most proud of his certificate from the Red Cross for his one hundredth blood donation. His later years were spent delivering Meals on Wheels and visiting all he knew who were in hospital or still in their homes, but not mobile. Although he and Marj travelled extensively following his retirement, taking in elder hostels and other tours, his most cherished times were the summers spent with his family, friends and fishing companions at Anglican Summer Camp on Lake of the Woods, for over 45 years. Dad was a caring, loving and generous father, husband and grandpa and always the consummate gentleman. He will be sadly missed and never forgotten. Thank you to the staff of Victoria General Hospital where he stayed for a year before being moved to Riverview Health Centre. The staff at Riverview were compassionate, caring and wonderful. We were very fortunate to have dad there. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 10 at 1:30 p.m. at Fort Garry United Church, 800 Point Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba, 10 - 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. THOMSON IN THE PARK 925-1120 Send expressions of sympathy to www.mem.com
