DONALD REYNOLDS PROVEN On Monday, September 29, 2008, Donald Reynolds Proven passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital. He was 73 years of age. Don will be fondly remembered by his devoted wife, Grace Louise, of Winnipeg; his children, Heather (Warren) McKennitt of Winnipeg, Diane (David) Carter-Williamson of Stansted, UK, John (Margaret) Proven of Winnipeg and Tanis (Patrick) Haggerty of Ottawa; as well as his grandchildren: Danae, Michaela and Daria McKennitt; Emily, Erica, Trent and Devon Williamson and their father, John; Evelyn and Helen Carter; Andrew and Mark Proven; and Teagan and Kiera Haggerty. He is also survived by his loving mother, Gladys Veitch, her partner Charlie, and his sister, Margaret (Darcy) Corregan, all of Victoria, BC, as well as his brother-in-law Don (Gayle) McPherson of Toronto, Ontario and their family. He was predeceased by his adoptive parents, Frank and Minnie Proven of Basswood, Manitoba. Don was an outgoing individual who loved music, woodworking and every moment spent with family and friends at Black Sturgeon Lake. For several years, Don lived courageously with PSP (progressive supranuclear palsy), a neurodegenerative disease causing loss of muscle control but not cognitive function. Throughout this challenging period, Don maintained his kind heart and generous nature. His generosity continues now through the donation of his person to the University of Manitoba for medical education purposes. A private memorial service will be held. Anyone wishing to honour Don's memory may make a donation to the Brummitt-Feasby ALS House, 106 Kirby Drive, Winnipeg, MB R2Y 0E8. Thank you to the loving staff at Brummitt-Feasby who cared for Don with great kindness and respect. When the sun shines, when the rain falls, when a dog barks or a bird sings, when I greet a neighbour, pound a nail or paint a wall, when music plays or a soft breeze blows gently off the lake, I will think of you and smile! - anonymous
