VICTORIA JOAN PRESCOTT Peacefully in the early hours of November 12, 2008 at Victoria General Hospital, Vicky left us at the age of 48. She was born on March 28, 1960 to Tom Prescott and Joan (Prescott) Smith. She grew up in West Kildonan, but was educated at Ellen Douglas School and later Grant Park High School where she received her Grade 12 Diploma. In later years she also took some classes at the University of Winnipeg. She lived at the St. Amant Centre for some years, then established her own household as a member of the L'Avenir Cooperative. Despite severe physical disabilities she was a fighter to the end and used the tools of a wicked sense of humour, a quick wit and an infectious laugh to get through times of severe pain and fear. Vicky's family was important to her, and she loved to spend time with them on visits or at family parties. She liked the odd glass of wine at those parties, even if she did make comical faces when she drank it and then laughed at our response. When she was younger, she was especially close to her beloved Nana and Poppa, John and Mary Prescott. She loved to go travelling, whether all the way to France, which she did in the 80s, or Lester Beach and Sandy Bay or just the park. Limited vision made reading very difficult, but she enjoyed television, especially old sitcoms and soap operas. She also loved music of all kinds (Cher was a particular favourite), and loved to tease and be teased. Vicky made an impact on all of us. Her unwitting gift was to impart life lessons on many of us whose lives she touched. All those who love her mourn her death, but we also accept it as her blessed release from the damaged body which housed her remarkable spirit. Besides her parents, Tom and Lorraine Prescott and Joan and Ken Smith, she is survived by her elder sister and brother-in-law, Laura and Terry Curbishley; her younger sister, Christine Prescott; her niece Jessica Curbishley; and her nephews Patrick Curbishley, Adam Rusnak and Nicholas Rusnak. She is mourned by her aunts and uncles, and her many cousins and step siblings. There are also her many friends and care givers, too many to name, but the family is especially grateful to Donna Fatoma, Alberta Senio, Liz Pommer, Debbie Bissett, Debbie Cobbett, Gabriella Comeault, Jennifer Hughes, Victoria Shears, Sandy Richards and Candace Leveque. We would also like to thank nursing staff of the Victoria Hospital Emergency Room for their sensitivity and professionalism. Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street. In lieu of flowers those who wish to do so may make memorial donations to charities of their choice. Ample parking behind funeral home Condolences: www.bardal.ca
