FREDA COODIN POSNER After a long illness, Freda Coodin Posner, aged 68 years, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at the Riverview Health Centre. She is survived by her husband Craig; her children, Marshall (Allison and daughter Teagan) and Rachel (T.J.); her siblings, Tzipie Freedman (the late Abe) of Montreal, Moish Coodin (Faigie) of Montreal, Arnie Coodin (Zoya) of Vancouver, Perry Coodin (Ruth) of Ottawa and Sheila Coodin of Vancouver; her brother-in-law Barry Posner (Bebe) of Montreal, as well as 12 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Ruth Coodin of Vancouver. Freda was an accomplished award-winning pianist, choir director and music teacher. She was recognized at an early age as an unusually gifted musician. She won first prize for piano at the Winnipeg Music Festival in every competition she entered. Later in life, she directed an inner-city school choir which, under her tutelage, won 35 trophies for excellence. She was modest and always tended to downplay her accomplishments. The focus of her life was her family, her care of and devotion to her children, and her close contact with her siblings and their children. She will be greatly missed by all of them. Profound thanks to Dr. Michael West and the Neurosurgical Team at the Health Sciences Centre and to Dr. Garnet Crawford and the Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care Unit for their kindness. Services were held on Friday, November 14, 2008 at the Chesed Shel Emes, followed by interment at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Health Sciences Centre Department of Neurosurgery or the Riverview Health Centre Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
