Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDITH LINNEA BEATTIE (nee NICHOLSON) With great sadness, the family announces the death of Edith Linnea Beattie (née Nicholson), on Sunday, November 23, 2008 at the age of 83. Edith was predeceased by her husband, William Hodgkinson Beattie (Bill); her sister, Gladys Kolomy; as well as her sister-in-law, Mary Beattie. She is survived by her six children, Linda Angus (Terry), Mary Lou Haggerty (Dean), Nancy Jones (Chris), Margie Berringer (Keith), William Beattie (Stella Kyriakakis) and Karen Beattie (Louis Sokolov); as well as her beloved 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Harold Nicholson (Joanne), Eric Nicholson (Norma) and Bert Nicholson; and her sisters, Ellen Smith, Claire McComb and Marion Wurch (Irvin). Edith was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the second daughter of Marten Nicholson and Beda Nicholson (née Bloomquist), Swedish immigrants to Canada. She grew up on the family farm near Lac du Bonnet during the Depression, where she and her seven siblings attended a one room school nearby. She came to Winnipeg to attend St. James Collegiate and complete high school. She worked as a teller for the Bank of Montreal until marrying Bill in 1946 and having her family. Edith and Bill valued learning and encouraged and supported all of their children in their education. Her passion for reading lasted a lifetime and she read voraciously. Edith was a dedicated member of Oxford United Church, and Knox United Church for many years, until her health failed. Her love of children was reflected until the end, with her many cards and gifts for birthdays and special occasions. Edith loved the colour red, flowers, chocolate and her beloved cappuccino! She is lovingly remembered by all who knew her and will be deeply missed. The family would like to thank the caring staff at Deer Lodge Centre (4 West), where Edith spent her last years. A Memorial Service will be held on November 28 at 10:00 a.m. in Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Public Library or a charity of your choice. THOMSON IN THE PARK 925-1120 Send expressions of sympathy to www.mem.com
