DAVID POPIEL It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Popiel on November 27, 2008 at the age of 54. Remaining to celebrate his memory is his beloved wife Shirley, mother Elsie, brothers William (Esther), Ernest, Lawrence (Dianna), parents-in-law Joseph and Yvonne Philippot, sister-in-law Lorraine (Larry), brothers-in-law Ron (Linda), Leonel, nephews Jeffrey Popiel, Joey and Derek Tarko, nieces Catherine and Tasha Popiel, and Shannon Smith. David was predeceased by his father Walter (1976). David had a long career as a Project Manager with the North West Co. In 1993 he followed his true passion as a Landscape Designer with Shelmerdine Nurseries where he was employed till the time of his passing. He took great pride in his gorgeous landscaped yard. His other hobby was the restoration of his 1965 Chevy Impala, which he bought when he was just 18 years old. David and Shirley enjoyed the many adventures they shared as they travelled the world. It was on these travels they met many new lifelong friends. His favorite trip was Thailand, where he met his foster daughter Panniga and volunteered to teach English at a local school. Dave and Shirley were touched by the love and support from friends and family around the world. The family and friends would like to thank the staff at the Victoria Hospital Oncology and Imaging department as well as Riverview Health Center for their caring support. David felt everyone went beyond the call of duty during this difficult time of his life. A memorial service will be held Monday, December 1 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the CancerCare Manitoba, 109-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba R3E 0V9.
