LEONA ELEANOR BEGGS (nee SMOLAK) October 25, 1922 - December 12, 2008 Passed away peacefully with her family at her home in the Village of Humber Heights. Leona dearly loved, and was cherished by her grandchildren - Krystin and Blake Scheider, TJ, Shawn, and Laura Beggs. Leona encouraged her grandchildren and was so very proud of their achievements. Leona was deeply loved and admired by her children, Gail Beggs and her husband Wolfgang Scheider, and Tom Beggs and his wife Carol. A hallmark of Leona's career as a registered nurse was her caring and compassionate support of patients. During her career, Leona nursed in out-patient, emergency, and long-term care departments of Winnipeg General Hospital and Peel Memorial Hospital. Leona enjoyed summers with family and friends at Royal Lake, where her love of nature, enthusiasm for gardening, and environmentalism were evident. Leona was raised by Francesca and John Smolak in a caring and compassionate family. She will be missed by her cherished sisters Carrie Lindsay and Kit Harack, Kit's husband Michael, her sister-in-law Olive Smolak, and her good friend Irene Scheider. Brother, Edward Smolak, and sister, Millie Marshall, predeceased Leona. Our family sincerely appreciates the loving support of Mom by Dora Perdomo. Our heartfelt thanks go to Mom's wonderful friends on Madoc Drive, and the caring family and staff of the Village of Humber Heights. We are planning a celebration of Leona's life with family and friends in the New Year. In lieu of flowers, we know Mom would appreciate a donation to the Canadian Museum for Human Rights www.CanadianMuseumforHumanRights.com

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Never knew what happened to Leona. All of a sudden I couldn't get her on the phone. I found out she moved, but had no idea of her passing. I feel sad knowing I never got to say goodbye. Your mom was indeed a special lady and I am missing her dearly. Love to all.
