THOMAS HENERY BEGGS Some people in this life have the ability to light up a room with their smile and are a joy to be around. This was our Dad and Grandpa. Tom passed away in the loving presence of his family on December 18, 2008. Survived by daughter Carol (Chuck), grandsons, Thomas and Sean Asselin, daughter Diane's family Steve, Lisa, Kristin and Terri Jarema. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Isabel (Gord) Thom, nieces and nephews and so many cherished friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Margaret, daughter Diane, parents, William and Annie and brother Sam. Born February 14, 1922 in Winnipeg, Tom grew up on Langside and spent his youth playing hockey and basketball before enlisting in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War. He married his love Margaret on July 31, 1954. They settled into Windsor Park and later Southdale to raise their two daughters. Summers were spent at the cottage in Winnipeg Beach where he would lay the foundation for a lifetime of good memories for his girls. Upon retirement from Transit, Tom and Marg became Snowbirds. They spent 22 happy winters in Weslaco, Texas, where they developed so many dear friendships. Tom had a special place in his heart for his large extended family at Magic Valley and felt especially fortunate to have been able to spend time with them during his brief visit this past November. Always as avid curler, his switch to shuffling was seamless and he quickly adjusted to the warm weather version of the sport. As the unofficial Mayor of 7th Street, no one enjoyed retirement more than Tom. Always quick with a smile or a good natured joke, he brightened everyone's day. A Grandfather without parallel, Tom was extremely happy to be involved in all the kids' activities and spent countless hours attending soccer matches and piano recitals. More recently, he was happy to provide both his time and expertise in helping the boys with their wine-making. He loved every minute of his time spent with the grandkids as they did in kind and he was extremely proud of the fine young adults that they've all become. Tom loved life and was truly was one-of-a-kind. He surely deserves the titles of Best Husband, Best Dad, Best Father-in-Law, Best Grandpa and Best Friend. Our loss is immeasurable but our memories are forever and we take comfort that he has been reunited with his true love. A private family burial is planned to be followed with a celebration in true Tom fashion when the Snowbirds return in the spring. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Tom's honor to the charity of your choice. We love you Papa. Rest in peace. GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 982-7550
