CATHERINE (KATY) THOMAN 1924 - 2008 Suddenly and peacefully Katy passed away from cancer at age 84 on Sunday, December 14, 2008 at Riverview Health Centre. She is survived by her husband of 61 years of marriage, Steve; daughter Linda Omichinski (Mitchell); sister-in-law Theresa Keller and nephews, John and Robert Keller. Katy was predeceased by her parents, John and Anna Keller and brother John. Born in Romania, Katy emigrated to Canada with her parents at the age of five where she lived in Montreal for most of her life. In 1991, she moved to Winnipeg with her husband. Mom was supportive of immediate family, truly devoted to the family, and held friendships dearly, doing anything for a friend. Call me Katy, not Catherine, she would say. Straight-forward, honest, sincere and down to earth, Katy would tell you like it is, embrace life, and accept what life brings to her gracefully with an open mind and heart. She loved to cook and bake and her favourites included pumpkin strudel, German tortes and specialty pies. Katy kept her sense of humor and peace about what was happening right to the end. Her spirit lives on in our hearts. Our family would like to thank the staff of Victoria Hospital, Unit 4 and Riverview Health Centre for their compassion and quality of care. Memorial service will be held on Monday, December 22, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, ON1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
