ELIZABETH (BETTE) POTOROKA It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Elizabeth (Bette), beloved mother, sister and aunt on January 2, 2009 with her two children by her side. She was predeceased by her loving husband Michael (Mickey) in 1993 after over 50 years of marriage. She was a devoted wife and mother to son Dennis and daughter Patricia. Elizabeth was born in Winnipeg on April 23, 1919 and was the youngest of six children. She is survived today by her sister Katherine (Kaye). Elizabeth lived in Portage la Prairie during the Second World War while her husband was overseas and then he taught at the air force base upon his return. After the war they moved back to Winnipeg where she raised two children and later worked at Kresge's for a short time with her sister Anne. In 1961 she moved with her husband and children to Toronto where she later worked in the Children's Department at Eaton's. She enjoyed working there and socializing with her co-workers. In 1974 she returned to Winnipeg with her husband who was transferred back here by his work along with her children. After her husband retired in 1981 they enjoyed travelling, playing cards with family and friends as well as going to the opera, ballet and plays at MTC. Besides her children and sister, she is survived by her nieces, Mariann (Harold), Eleanor, Leona (Ray), Carole, Marilyn (Dwight), Barbara, and Patricia (Mel) as well as her nephews, Joe (Sheila), Father Joseph, Frank (Norma), John and Donald. Should family or friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Heart Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or the Parkinson Society. Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, Munroe Avenue and Brazier Street. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. 586-8044
