HERBERT ELMER PRYCE On Monday, January 19, 2009, Elmer, with family by his side, peacefully passed on at the age of 90 at Extendicare Tuxedo Villa. Left to cherish his memory are his wife and love of his life of 66 years Evelyn, daughters, Carol Farrow (Barrie) of Winnipeg, Julie Baxter (Paul) of Wenatchee, Washington, son Cameron of Moose Jaw, grandchildren, Ryan, Joel, Stephanie, Nicole, Marcus, Laura and Emily, brothers, Don (Ruth), Glen (Jackie), sisters, June, Ruth (John), Shirley (Alf), and sister-in-law Bertha, numerous nieces and nephews, Krista, Jay, Kara and Katie who were very close to his heart. Elmer was predeceased by his parents, Kathleen and Matthew Pryce. Elmer was born in Wawota, Saskatchewan on July 3, 1918, where he attended school and grew up on the family farm. It was at one of the many local dances that mom and her red earrings caught his eye and they were married on February 22, 1933. Together they operated a successful farm and raised their family. Elmer was proud of his hometown of Wawota and loved going to the local dances and in the summer months to Kenossee Lake where his siblings and families would meet at the family cottage. He was also a talented singer and entertainer and would often be recruited to perform at various local functions. He was especially fond of performing Scottish songs and dance. Elmer was a valued member of the Wawota United Church Choir and was known for his rich base voice. He was a familiar face at the local baseball and hockey venues around the area and in the later years loved going to the Sunday Flea market where you would find him listening to the local band. In the summer of 2000 Mom and Dad moved from the farm into Wawota where they enjoyed local activities and day trips to surrounding towns for lunch and shopping. In July of 2004, due to health and to be closer to family they moved to Winnipeg to their new home at Sterling House, and although they missed family and friends and their town, they met and enjoyed many new friends. In accordance with Elmer's wishes, cremation has taken place and the family is having a private celebration of his life. Special thanks to Unit 2 staff at Extendicare Tuxedo Villa who provided such wonderful care to Oopa over the last few months. Thank you Corliss and Shawna for your gentle care, kindness, and compassion on his final day. If friends and family desire, in lieu of flowers, a donation in memory of Elmer can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
