HAZEL (SCHARF) THORNHILL It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Hazel, January 31, 2009, at the age of 92. She was predeceased by her husband Edward, in 2007; daughter Donna Carol; sisters, Edith and Ina; brother Norris and other cherished family and friends. Left to mourn are her sons: Gerald (Judy), Allan (Judie), Ronald (Patti); grandchildren, Jacki (Todd), Kelly ( Richard), Sean and Scott; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Jared, Paige and Matty; brother Ralph (Gladys) and family; sister-in-law Barbara and family; brother-in-law Art (Judy) and family; special niece Lola and family and many other close family and friends. Hazel was born in La Riviere, Manitoba, lived a treasured farm and sports life there, married a fledgling pilot in the RCAF, and helped him through a varied and interesting career and life of travel, leaving behind her own beginnings as a machinist and a hopeful nurse candidate. She managed her family affairs with energy and enthusiasm in Ontario, Quebec and in Europe, returning to Manitoba for much-loved holidays and finally to reside in Winnipeg, with a cottage in the Whiteshell. Her hands were always so full, she said, and yet, for many years, she also managed to babysit and do daycare work for good friends in the neighbourhood and for nearby church and community daycares. A family service will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2009 at 12:30 p.m at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, with an interment and reception to follow. The family wishes to thank the Charleswood Care Centre and staff for the extra special care and concern extended to Hazel and to her visitors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Charleswood Care Centre, 5501 Roblin Blvd., Winnipeg, MB R3R 0G8. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
