AFROS ROBERT PUZIANOWSKI February 11, 1925 - March 14, 2009 It is with great sadness to announce that Afros passed away peacefully after a courageous struggle with cancer at the St. Boniface General Hospital in the early hours of Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the age of 84 years. He will be eternally missed by his wife of some 45 years Bertha, his children Judy, Ward, Todd and Keith, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the multitude of friends and family left to mourn his passing. Afros was born February 11, 1925 in Hadashville, MB. He along with his siblings Rudy, Gus, Agatha, Albert and Josie led a life not without hardship and struggle, as the passing of their father happened at a young age. The family then had to pull together to meet the daunting challenges of the post depression years during the turbulent times of the Second World War. Afros later spent many years working in the forest industry cutting fire and pulp wood in the Hadashville area and later briefly, going to Ocean Falls, BC to do logging there. The call of familiar ground came to him and feeling the need to be near home and family he returned to Hadashville where he met the love of his life Bertha. Together they settled for a short time on his brothers' farm in Hadashville. But it wasn't long before an opportunity arose for him to work at Falcon Lake for Natural Resources in the park maintenance dept. Soon Afros and Bertha bought their home at West Hawk Lake and settled in for nearly 40 years raising a family and making many friends in the area. Afros found great joy in being with his family and friends. He loved to fish at his favourite spots on Falcon Lake. It was often said if Afros isn't catching fish nobody is . Music was another love of his life. In the latter years of his retirement he played with a group of some of his dearest life long friends entertaining friends, family and strangers alike. Often times their group of merry musicians would happily volunteer their time playing at seniors homes not only here in Winnipeg but anywhere they were needed to lift the spirits of others. Afros you were a man of patience. It made you a good husband, father, friend and fisherman. You were also a man at peace with himself and at peace with all people who were around you. Music poured forth from your heart and your hands as abundantly as did love and generosity. May you Afros find peace and eternal rest on the calmest of waters as you are bathed in the light and glory of our Lord. Our family would like to express our deepest gratitude to all those who so generously lent their time and support throughout this difficult time. We cannot express enough thanks for your support and kindness. He was truly blessed to be surrounded by such love and friendship as yours. A memorial will be held at Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler, Thursday March 19, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. where all who knew Afros are invited to share in his passing and celebrate his life.
