SISTER JEANNE BEAUDOIN (SISTER ROSE-IRENE) On Sunday, March 15, 2009, at Taché Centre, St. Boniface, Manitoba, Sister Jeanne Beaudoin died very peacefully. Sister Jeanne leaves to mourn her passing her nieces and nephews and the members of her religious community. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Irène (Léo Beaudry) and her brother Gérard (Reine), (Madeleine). On February 16, 1919, Jeanne, the eldest of three children, was born to Signard Beaudoin and Arthémise Robert in Ste.Agathe. She spent 19 beautiful years in her hometown where she attended school. Called to religious life, Jeanne entered the Novitiate of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary in Outremont, Québec, on July 23, 1938. Known as Sister Rose Irène, she pronounced her first vows on August 22, 1940. Five years later, on August 5, 1945, Sister Rose-Irène made her final profession. Upon her return to Manitoba, Sister Rose-Irène consecrated herself to the teaching profession. After attending Normal School at Tuxedo, Winnipeg, she pursued her studies at the University of Manitoba while teaching. From 1940 to 1951, in St. Pierre, Sister taught Home Economics as she was an excellent seamstress and skilled at doing crafts. During these years Sister Rose-Irène was also mistress of boarders at the convent. From 1952 to 1961, she taught at the Junior High level in Somerset and then went back to St. Pierre-Jolys where she was principal for five years. From there, she went to St. Jean-Baptiste where she remained until 1992. Sister taught French, Catechetics and Mathematics at the Junior High Level until 1978. The following eight years, Sister worked as librarian and answered the needs of students at the Elementary School and the High School. In 1992, at Résidence Jésus-Marie, St. Boniface, Sister Jeanne continued to render services to her sister companions inasmuch as her health permitted it. In 2005, she moved to Résidence Despins, and lived there for four years. Sister Jeanne spent more time in prayer and enjoyed knitting and crossword puzzles, her favourite pastimes. In 2008, after a fall and a stay at Grace Hospital, she moved to Taché Center where she resided until her death. A Celebration of the Word will take place at Résidence Despins, 151 Despins St., St. Boniface on Thursday, March 19 at 7:00 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at the same place on Friday, March 20 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery.
