GEORGE POPOWICH March 14, 1930 April 16, 2009 Our family sadly announces the passing of George on Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Concordia Hospital, at the age of 79 years. George is survived by his dedicated wife of 57 years Angie, his daughter Wendy Foster (Lyle) and his son Alan. Also left to mourn are his grandchildren Jamie Foster (Dayna), Dean Foster (Jennifer) and Tana Hendren (Ryan). George is also survived by brothers, Bill Popowich and Julian Popowich and by his sisters, Anne Blahey, Mary Dunlop, Rose Doroschuk, Jean Trakalo, Mildred Smith and Adeline Jason-Weinberg and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Nykola and Katherine Popowich and his brother, Les Popowich. George was born in Rembrandt, Manitoba and remained on the farm until his family moved into Winnipeg where he attended St. John's High School. George was an intelligent and hard working person who accomplished much in his life. One of his first jobs was at Canada Packers, he owned a number of small businesses and ended his career as a store/training manager for Shell Foods. Upon retirement, George was instrumental in the creation of the 83 unit Park City Meadows Housing Co-Op. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Winnipeg. The family would like to thank the nursing staff and health care aides on the 3rd floor at Concordia Hospital who treated dad with the utmost respect and dignity in his final days. When Life Is Done I'd like to think when life is done That I had filled a needed post That here and there I'd paid my fare With more than idle talk and boast That I had taken gifts devine The breath of life and manhood fine And tried to use them now and then In service for my fellow men.
