Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOREEN ELIZABETH POTTER (nee NICKEL) 1953 - 2009 With dignity, peace and her husband by her side, as a result of illness, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Boundary Trails Health Centre. Doreen couldn't wait to get into the world. She was born en route to Winkler while the snow flew on December 20th, 1953. The man-made world held no interest for Mom - it was the natural world that gave her the most joy and satisfaction. Flowers, trees, birds and her personal relationships were the treasures Mom valued most. Sneaking vegetables from the garden as a child, hoeing sugar beets as a teen and tending her own gardens as a grown woman; these and other rituals became the sources for Doreen's life story. The produce from her garden was often transformed into beautiful jars of pickles and jellies that became gifts enjoyed by her family and many friends. Doreen leaves behind her husband of 32 years Bill, daughters, Tessa (Jason), Alicia Olson (Steve) and her grandchildren Nigel, Emmanuel and Nora. Also left to mourn are her mother Tina Nickel, siblings Alvina Koshy (Sam), Manfred (Janet), Verna Penner (Bill), Judy Penner, Delores Krahn (Gerald), Marvin (Myrna) and numerous nieces and nephews. She will also be sadly missed by her friends of over 30 years, Alana and Cindy, for her love, her loyalty and her courageous spirit which helped all of us become better people. Ash interment to take place Thursday, June 11th, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Roland, MB. Friends and family are invited after to share in a celebration of Doreen's life at 5:00 p.m. at the Roland Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doreen's memory to the ALS Society of Manitoba, 2109 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3J 0L3. We would like to thank the staff at Boundary Trails Health Centre for the kindness and compassion shown to our mother. Mom, your ability to listen without judgment will always be missed. We promise to spread your wisdom, truth, clarity and to continue to work towards our own self-realization. Birds like you don't come along every season.
