GORDON RANKIN September 5, 1940 July 13, 2009 It is with deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband and father, Gordon on July 13, 2009 at the Pine Falls Hospital. He will be sadly missed and forever remembered by his wife Sharon Velpel, son Darrell and daughter-in-law Laura. He leaves to mourn his mother-in-law Betty and extended family. Gord was predeceased by his parents (Marguerite and Everett), first wife Marjorie (1998) and brother Russell. Gordon grew up on the family farm near Killarney, MB. Gord worked most of his life as a mechanic; first in Morden, then at Pembina Dodge and finally at the Winnipeg Free Press where he worked for 30 years until his retirement in July 2008. Gord spent the last 20 years living at his cottage in Lakeshore Heights near Grand Beach. He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed golfing and snowmobiling. Gord was a very kind and generous person. He possessed a great sense of humour and was well liked. He will be sadly missed by his friends and co-workers especially his daily coffee buddy Gord L. A special thank you to Bruce and Vera Lynn, the paramedics from Pine Falls and Dr. Ibrhim at the Pine Falls Hospital. A celebration of Gordon's life will be held at St. Jude's Anglican Church, 36106 Grand Beach Road, Grand Marais, MB on Tuesday, July 28 at 2:00 p.m., with the Rev. Judith Whitmore officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to either the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Winnipeg Humane Society.
