WILLIAM HENRY BECKETT (BOB) 1919 - 2009 Dad passed away at the age of 89, with family by his side, on August 16, 2009 at Concordia General Hospital. Left to cherish his memory are his children Judith (Donald), David (Anna) and Ann (Glen), grandchildren, Chris (Shelley), Jennifer (Brad), Sean, Tyler, Jessica, Nicholas, Colter and Travis as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Bob was predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years, Patricia, parents, Francis and Rosa and sister Katherine. Bob was born in Neepawa on September 24, 1919. He was raised in Winnipeg and served overseas in the Second World War, participating in the liberation of Holland. While serving his country he met his wife Patricia in England where they were married in 1944. Following his return to Canada he worked as an upholsterer for Eaton's for over 30 years. After retiring from Eaton's he went to work for the Westin Hotel for more than ten years. During most of his working life Bob continued to serve his country as a member of the Canadian Army reserve. One of his proudest moments was participating in the coronation ceremonies of Queen Elizabeth II on June 2, 1953 as a member of the Canadian Army contingent. He enjoyed family gatherings and in recent years particularly looked forward to the annual family weekend at Gimli, a tradition that began as a celebration of Bob and Pat's 50th anniversary in 1994. The family would like to thank the staff and elders at The Irene Baron Eden Centre where he resided for the last year. We would also like to thank the staff of 3 North at Concordia Hospital for their care and respect in his final days. A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 7, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. In lieu of flowers a donation in Bob's name may be made to The Salvation Army or The Winnipeg Humane Society. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111
