NOREEN FLORENCE PRICE (nee STREICK) With great sadness, we announce the peaceful and sudden passing of our mother on September 8, 2009 in her home in Emerson, MB, aged 88 years. Left to honour her memory are daughters, Janet Clark (Drew Burgess), Lorraine Reinfort (Ernest); granddaughters, Breanne (Maxim) and Christine; sister Linda Rodewald; sister-in-law Mae Streick, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Noreen was predeceased by her loving husband Bruce of 40 years; parents, Fred and Mary Streick; brothers, Elwyn and Lesley. Born March 14, 1921, Noreen was raised in Niverville, MB. After completing school, she moved to Winnipeg and worked at Eaton's in the men's shoe department for nine years, and played back-catcher on their baseball team. She met and married Bruce in 1943, and in 1955 they moved to Emerson to take over the general store from Noreen's parents, re-naming it Streick and Price . While raising a family Noreen kept busy working at the store, and was actively involved in many aspects of the United Church and the Emerson Chapter of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed curling, golfing, sewing and bridge club. At age 43, Noreen suffered a stroke that left her paralyzed on her left side, but this did not slow her down. Shortly after, the store was sold and she worked for the Emerson Branch of the Altona Credit Union. Following Bruce's death in 1984, Noreen remained in her house for 20 more years maintaining her independence with the help of family and friends. Noreen loved travelling, having visited all 10 provinces, several states, and even parts of Europe. She was always excited for the next great motorhome adventure with her family. Noreen's feisty spirit helped her to conquer the challenges that life threw her way and her determination inspired many who knew her. She never considered herself disabled but kept active with her many interests like knitting, quilting, canning, baking, reading, playing cards and Scrabble, doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles and gardening. She especially loved going out with family and friends at every opportunity. She was always interested in the many pursuits of her granddaughters, and was the champion of long distance phone calls. In 2004, Noreen moved into an apartment where she enjoyed the companionship of the other residents. With the help of dedicated homecare workers and great friends and family, she continued to live a rich and fulfilling life in her final years. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 12, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Andrew's United Church, Emerson, MB. Interment to follow at Emerson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or St. Andrew's United Church, Emerson. Wiebe Funeral Home Altona Ltd. 324-5404 in care of arrangements.
