BARBARA PROSSER April 3, 1915 - October 5, 2009 Peacefully, on October 5, 2009, Barbara passed away at Victoria Hospital. The eldest of five children, Barbara was born April 3, 1915 to Oscar David (O.D.) Prosser and Anne Helena Kavanaugh. She grew up in Norwood and attended St. Mary's and Holy Cross Schools, University at St. Mary's Academy and Success Business College. After her first job at Sobie's, ironing recycled paper bags, she was employed by C.N.R. from 1937-1975, retiring at the age of 60. After retirement Barbara worked at temporary jobs until age 65. She also took many courses at the U of W. Barbara was one of the founders of the Viking Ski Club in Winnipeg: she was also a longtime volunteer at the Nearly New Shop and the Children's Hospital Book Sale and a faithful supporter of the Save the Elm Trees on Broadway . She traveled extensively on the Continent, Canada coast-to-coast, including Hudson Bay, extensively in the United States, Cuba, Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii. Barbara devoted her life to her family, especially her sister Eileen. She was an avid reader and had a keen interest in everyone she met. When her sight diminished, the radio, tuned to CBC, became her constant companion. She was predeceased by her parents, brother John, sisters, Eileen and Mary, and sister-in-law Irene. She leaves to cherish her memory: one brother David, sister-in-law Peggy in Tasmania, nieces and nephews as well as many friends. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 510 River Ave., with Father Sam Argenziano officiating.
