LARS PORATH It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Lars Ivan Porath on October 28, 2009. Lars was born on the family farm at Piney, Manitoba, on October 15, 1924. Lars was the fifth eldest of 12 children born to Albert Frederick Porath and Esther Emelia Larson. His love of the farm and of the outdoors led him to a long and rewarding career as a Forest Ranger and Conservation Officer, taking him to Seven Sisters Falls, East Braintree, Boggy Creek and Birch River, retiring in Grandview in 1988. It was while he was embarking on this career and moonlighting as a carpenter that the love of his life caught his eye. He married Noella Carriere on July 29, 1953 and together they reared a family of eight. This past July marked their 56th wedding anniversary and they celebrated this landmark with family at their beloved cabin at Childs Lake. Lars loved his work and spent many long days doing what he loved. It was in his retirement that he realized his real love was his family and he loved surrounding himself with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, Noella, he leaves many to mourn his loss. These include his children, Carolyn and Bruce Crossley, Deborah and John Chad, Keith Porath and Lise Fortier, Duane and Patricia Porath, Eric Porath and Shirley Shields, Conrad and Bonnie Porath, Trudy and George Patterson, Lorelei and Ciaran Morris, his grandchildren Nathan (Melanie) Crossley, Erin (Darcy) Brasch, Shayla Crossley (Lance Hazelwood), Dustin Aikman, Trevor Aikman, Ashleigh Aikman (Dustin Holland), Wade Balon, Derek, Kiel and Darcy Porath, Tamara, Rebecca and Carissa Porath, Rochelle, Christopher and Nicole Porath, Britta, Joshua and Veronica (Tony Kiemele) Porath, Craig and Curtis Patterson and Jared, Haley and Desmond Morris, and great grandchildren Tyrell, Gavin, Taelor, Kaedyn, Matthew, Brandon, Carmela, Ashley, Amelia, Andy, Tia and Owen. He also leaves to mourn his loss his brother Garry (Lorraine), his sisters Bertha, Grace Town (Tom), Eileen Dixon, Doris (Peter) Mushaluk, Janice Fillion (Alan McKenzie), Donna (Gill) Kaul; brothers-in-law, Ferdinand (Stella) Carriere, Guy (Solvieg) Carriere, Charles (Gloria) Carrier; sisters-in-law, Minnie Porath, Clementine Porath, Simone Cockerill, Florence Arcand, Theresa (Bert) Holtby, Yvette Carriere, Irma Carriere, Catherine Carriere as well as many extended family members. He was predeceased by his parents Albert and Esther, brothers Neil, Carl and Alvin, sister Kathleen, brothers-in-law Jim Dunham, Alex Dixon and Peter Hildebrandt and nephews Bruce and Leonard.
