He is survived by his beloved wife Opal, of 54 years, son Darren, daughter Kathleen Muntain, special granddaughters Haleigh Muntain and Jennifer Pollard, son-in-law Richard, mother-in-law Gladys Pingatore, sister-in-law Gail Matheson, brother Henry, sister Jean Frie, as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Dennis was predeceased by his parents, James and Toni, brother-in-law John Matheson and father-in-law Pete Pingatore. Dennis was born and raised in the West End of Winnipeg. He started working for the C.P.R. on February 27, 1951 as a material handler. He advanced through the railway in several capacities, retiring 43 years later on August 31, 1994 as a Signal Repair Shop Supervisor. He enjoyed his entire career and spoke often of the great experiences and the people he worked with throughout the years. He met his future wife Opal in 1952 and began their life-long relationship getting married May 14, 1955. They moved to their Transcona home in 1963 where they still reside. A short time later they began their family. While raising and supporting his children through their developmental years, Dennis began his volunteering at Oxford Heights Community Centre as a Coach in hockey and baseball for several years. He was an active member of Transcona Legion #7, Kilcona Lodge #183, and was Past President of Directors Staff, Khartum Temple. He also has been an active member and volunteer at Transcona Memorial United Church, most recently on the board as a Trustee. He had many hobbies and interests and was very meticulous about everything he did. The family wants to thank all the friends, family and organizations who have been so helpful over the last several months. A special thanks to Dick, Susan, Tad, Shirley, the palliative care nurses, CancerCare treatment ward nurses, Dr. Rubinger and his nurse Tiffany. All have been so supportive. A Memorial and Masonic Service to celebrate Dennis' life will be held Thursday, November 12 at 1:30 p.m. at the Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Ave. W. Hi Aunt Opal, I am so sorry for your loss in Uncle Dennis with our family being so distant I just found out. Henry too died November 18,2004 of cancer he was gone in six weeks. My mother has had three cancers and I too have been hit with the dreaded disease. My mom is fourteen years cancer free and I am in the middle of the fight. I am hoping you can tell me what kind of cancer Dennis had so I can inform my children of heredity. Henry had multiple myoloma. Thank you for your time and I dearly hope I have not upset you further.
