MIEP JOHANA VAN RAALTE (nee OUENDAG) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Miep, wife, mother and grandmother, on November 10, 2009. Miep was born on March 30, 1934 in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and came to Canada in 1954 with her husband, Jacobus and their son, Walter. Their second son, Michael was born in Virden, Manitoba. Miep loved Canada and traveled throughout the country. She enjoyed all their family vacations and camping trips and referred to her move to Canada as just another adventure. Family was important to Miep and she dedicated her life to her husband, children and grandchildren, always ready to assist with work, school and family matters. Miep will be remembered for her love and dedication to her family and thoughtfulness to all. Miep was very unique and was respectful of other people. She was generous and known for her little gifts at family gatherings, often, not only bringing gifts for her children and grandchildren but also something for other people that were there. Miep worked for two years with the Winnipeg Free Press as a secretary to the editor and then worked for the Manitoba Teacher's Society for many years until she retired from the Society. Miep also taught Dutch and did Dutch / English translations. Miep will be missed by her loving husband of 57 years, Jacobus, as well as by their two sons, Walter (Dawn) and Michael (Kim), one grandson, Jason, and one granddaughter, Cheyenne. Their stepgrandson, Andrew and stepgranddaughter, Ashley, will also miss her. Miep will also be missed by her sister Dory in British Columbia, her brother, John (Cheryl) in Winnipeg and her nephews. As per Miep's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service.
