TARA LYNN POPE (nee HILBORN) December 2, 1972 - February 2, 2010 The sudden, untimely passing of Tara with family at her side, left saddened, shattered hearts. A first born to Joyce and Jack Hilborn of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Remaining to forever cherish Tara's memory are her husband Andrew; brother Andy; parents Joyce and Jack; in-laws Annette and Eddie; sister-in-law Anne; special grandmother Nellie Kolybaba; aunts; uncles and cousins. She will also be deeply missed by her countless friends and family members. In 1980, at the tender age of seven, Tara was chosen to be the sixth Lion's Telethon Poster Child. She touched the hearts of many and was instrumental in helping raise funds toward the Lion's Disability Fund for Children. Tara's education through the schools of Montessori, Woodhaven, Bruce Jr. High, Silver Heights High, and first year University of Winnipeg, left her a career choice unable to reach due to her disability. A free spirit with a love of family, friends, travel, nature, animals, music, art and a zest for life; Tara, along with her husband at her side and family support, defied all odds. May her spirit enfold so we always know the peace and promise of eternity. A small family gathering will be held to honour Tara's memory. If friends so desire, donations may be made to The Salvation Army, 300 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3J 3R5 or a charity of choice. Let there not be tears of sadness, Only joy and praise For Tara climbed the highest mountain To see what was on the other side. Perhaps a peaceful valley to lay at rest Until we meet again - God Bless.

  • I only knew Tara in passing as a fellow classmate back in the days at Bruce Junior High. I also do believe we were classmates at Athlone School and Bannatyne but I could be wrong on that. I do remember her being liked by others and respected as well. I was born with a disability as well, which was cerebral palsy but it wasn't as noticeable with me. She never struck me as a person as far as I could tell that ever felt sorry for herself and, as a person with a disability myself, just wanted to treated and accepted regardless. I was thinking of her out of the blue today wondering what she did after high school. I was sorry to find out she had passed on a decade ago. I'm glad to read that she still managed to live a happy life and enjoy life despite circumstances, as I can relate to as well living with a disability. - Posted by: Jason Loewen (Classmate at Bruce Jr. High) on: Feb 27, 2020
