NICHOLAS (NICK) PROKOPOWICH August 29, 1932 - April 26, 2010 It is with very heavy hearts that we, the family of Nick Prokopowich announce his sudden passing on Monday, April 26, 2010 at the Concordia Hospital in Portgordon. Nick is survived and will be deeply missed by his wife of 46 years, Sheila; his children, Tony Williams (Fran) of Edmonton, Cheryl Pleskach (Stephen) of St. Adolphe, Randy Prokopowich of Thailand, and Rodney Prokopowich of Calgary; his grandchildren, Kyle and Kailee Amos of Winnipeg, Sydney Prokopowich of Edmonton, and Justin and Lynnzee Tews of Edmonton; and his sister, Anne Christie of British Columbia. Nick was born in Stony Mountain, MB and eventually made his way to Winnipeg where he met and married his wife Sheila and raised his family. Nick worked at Canada Packers for 32 years until his retirement, and ended up building his retirement home in Arnes, MB where mom and dad moved permanently in 1990. As a family, we all have wonderful childhood memories of camping trips throughout Canada and the U.S.A. - especially Long Lake Campsite -with many neighbours and friends and made many more lasting friendships along the way. Nick was always the life of the party, the jokster in the crowd and will always be remembered for his laughter and big smile. He had endless energy to share with the grandchildren as they grew and always had time to share his incredible stories and laughter with them. Nick could always find ways to have fun, and he truly enjoyed his life at the lake, his numerous friends and the many travels that he and mom have been on during their retirement years. Nick (Dad) is also known by friends and family for his creative crafts and well-known putters and canes which he famously sold, bartered and gave away. To all of our wonderful family and friends, thank you for your loving support during this difficult time. To honour dad's wishes, a funeral will not be held; however family and friends are welcome to join us for a Remembrance of Nick's life on Saturday, May 1, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Gimli New Horizon 55 Plus Centre, 17 Colonization Road, Gimli. We wish to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Gera, the Paramedics and the Nursing staff at Gimli and District Hospital and to the wonderful and compassionate care received by I.C.U. staff, (Nurse Kent, Clinical Assistant Viktor and student nurse, Alycia) at the Concordia Hospital in Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, a donation in dad's memory can be made to a charity of your choice. For you Dad; you always supported our adventures and ideas....what a difference a father can make with encouragement. A world of wonder awaits the open mind. To bathe in the marrow of life; to dream of adventures that widen one's eyes, and raise the pulse to a beating roar. To walk the path of passion and live life with fervor. To taste the sweetness of life as she pours over my soul. To inhale the fragrances of nature and allow them a seat at the table of memory. To wander into the abyss of silence and be deafened by her song. The chimes of the crickets and the mysteries of the loon. The echoes of the wolf that awakens the spirit to primeval memories. To roam the plains with the wildebeest and quench the thirst of understanding. To delve into the chaos of love and be awoken, rapturous. Therein lies the passion of life; and the choice of living... by Rodney Prokopowich You have warmed our hearts and touched our souls. We are better people for knowing you and being loved by you. We love you Nick, Dad, Grandpa! May you rest in peace... Funeral Arrangements in care of: WHEELER FUNERAL CHAPEL 211 REGENT AVENUE, WEST (AT BOND ST.) 224-1525
