OLGA PORTEOUS Olga Porteous, peacefully with her family by her side, passed away on June 30, 2010 at the age of 97 at the Oakview Place in Winnipeg, MB. She leaves behind her sons Garry (Marlene), Lloyd (Gayle); grandchildren Laurie (Darcy), Kevin, Diane, Ron (Kristen), Barry, Carrie (Jay) and Trevor; great-grandchildren, Bradley, Joshua, Daniel, Sara, Hanna, Emma and Julie; her special sister Tilly and her daughter Barbara; sisters Elsie, Christina, Hilda, Esther and Eleanor; brothers Herman and Bob. She was predeceased by her loving daughter Mary Mae, grandson Michael and parents John and Julia Henkel. Olga was born in Winnipeg but lived her younger years in Ashern. Being the eldest of 18 children she helped raise her numerous brothers and sisters. She lived most of her life in the St. James area working for T.C.A. and Simpson Sears. After she retired she returned to Ashern to help look after her mother. Gramma was known for her home cooking, especially her perogies, cabbage rolls and apple pie. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at the Ashern Centennial Hall with Dwight Sander officiating. Interment to follow in the Ashern Municipal Cemetery. Many thanks to the 2nd floor staff of Oakview Place for all their good care. They are a special group!
