ROBERTA (BERTIE) REAY (nee GUTTORMSON) It is with great sorrow the family announces the passing of our beloved mother, Amma and Great-Amma on August 28, 2010. Bertie leaves behind her beloved only child Erla; grandchildren, Craig (Kim) and Laura (Dave); great-grandchildren, Cole, Mikala, Chase and Cadia. She will be missed by her brothers, Clifford (Edna) and Jonas (Christine); and her sisters, Helga and Eileen, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bertie was predeceased by her first husband Charles Reay; her second husband Jack Melville; her parents, Einar and Holmfridur; her sisters, Birgetta and Asdis; and her brothers, Fred, Sam and Henrik; and her great-grandson Ethan. Bertie was born November 30, 1926 in Libau (Poplar Park) and lived the majority of her adult life in Winnipeg. She was the seventh of 10 children. Bertie took great pride in her Icelandic heritage, constantly reading and writing about her family. She was also passionate about the stories of her brother Henrik, who died while fighting abroad in the Second World War. Bertie will be remembered as a devoted and elegant lady, unselfishly thinking of her family first and herself second. The family would like to sincerely thank Bertie's niece, Sylvia, as well as the health care professionals and staff who cared for her during her final weeks. A private memorial service and interment was held at Thompson In the Park on September 1, 2010. Donations can be made to CNIB in her name. The delicate wings of a butterfly have carried her gentle soul to dance in heaven's meadows and now she walks hand in hand with the loved ones there before her.
