Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT (BOB) THORNTON, SR. Peacefully, on September 24, 2010, Bob, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away at the Portage and District General Hospital at the age of 88 years. With many cherished memories, Bob will be greatly missed by his wife of 53 years, Marion (nee Cross); son Robert (Jackie); daughters, Linda and Susan; grandchildren, Alistair and Gillian, and numerous family members and friends. Bob was predeceased by his parents as well as four brothers and two sisters. Raised on a farm in the Mill Creek district, Bob worked the family farm until deciding to pursue his love of carpentry and woodworking, of which many items of his creation can be found in homes near and far. Bob's devotion towards his family also extended to those at Fortier Gospel Chapel, where he fellowshipped throughout his life. He lived his life as a reflection of his faith in Christ. Bob loved spending time with his family whether it was on trips, attending children's and grandchildren's sport and school functions, or just sitting around the table. Over the years, he also spent time curling, doing crafts, going for coffee with friends, working at Bible camps, and going for drives. Bob had a great sense of humour and loved a good joke played by him or on him. He showed a sincere interest in others and nothing but kindness to all. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. K. Parker and the nursing staff of Portage General Hospital, the homecare staff at Regency House, and the staff at Douglas Campbell Lodge, for their kindness and care. A celebration in memory of Bob will be held on Wednesday, September 29 at 2:00 p.m. at Highway Tabernacle, 1680 Saskatchewan Avenue, Portage la Prairie. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Faith Bible Camp, P. O. Box 42059, RPO Ferry Road, Winnipeg, MB R3J 3X7 or a charity of one's choice.
