JOYCE ISABEL BROOKS (BULMER) September 17, 1916 October 9, 2010 On a peaceful Saturday, at age 94, Mom left the world to reunite with her late husband, her true love and best friend, Johnny. Celebrating her life are her children: Lynne (Doug), Bob (Dee), Glen (Christine) and Ron (Annette), as well as her numerous grand-children and great-grandchildren. Mom spent her career as an RN and, fittingly, was a poster girl for healthy living. Her days began with stretching and calisthenics, a regimen that allowed her to celebrate her milestone 80th birthday by doing a headstand. In her last moments Mom was waiting for the elevator in her apartment, likely en route to the main floor of her block to do her daily laps. Watching Mom crocheting quietly on her glider rocker, each stitch in perfect rhythm with her chair, offered a snapshot of how she lived life: at ease but with a steady pace. She spent her retirement summers at Hillside Beach with Dad. They later moved to White Rock, then Langley, BC, before moving back to Winnipeg when Dad's health weakened. On her 93rd birthday, Mom's overly practical and modest nature were summarized in her own words when she quipped: Don't cry when I pop off! Because, like any good mother, she wanted no part of being fussed over. Since she was such a wonderful person, we find a modest amount of fussing necessary and offer her this small tribute... Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, we will miss you dearly and we will love you always. Many thanks to Mom's special neighbours, friends and the wonderful staff of Donwood Manor.
