EILEEN (BETTY) MARGARET THOM 1927 - 2010 With deepest regrets and profound sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our dear Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Aunt, Sister and friend, Eileen on Saturday, November 27, 2010, at the Victoria Hospital while surrounded by her children. Mom would have turned 83 on December 20. Mom was predeceased by her parents, Alice and Charles Haynes; brothers, Gordon, Art and Aubrey; as well husband, Robert Thom. Leaving to grieve her passing is the family that she cherished. Daughters, Dorothy (Derek) Read, Margaret (Don) Bryant; and sons, Robert (Barb) Thom and Wayne Thom. Grandchildren, Heather and Angela, Kim and Alice, Scott and Kevin and Beth. Great-Grandchildren, Jessie, Antonio, Julian, Regan and Ryder. She is also survived by her sister, Rosemary Haynes. Mom was a great provider and wonderful teacher who taught us to look for the best in people and situations. Her smile lit up a room like a rainbow and her laugher was contagious. In the past her expertise as a seamstress presented itself in the making of many formals and wedding gowns. The smell of Christmas cakes and puddings in years gone by, will be remembered fondly. She had a way of making Christmas truly special. She also enjoyed crafts and especially most recently, was focused on knitting gifts for her family for Christmas. Knitting was her passion and speed was her game as she would produce knitted items including teddy bears and clowns. Some of these clowns will find their way this year into Christmas hampers and other charities, for children to enjoy on Christmas morning. This pleased Mom very much. Mom was a caring individual who was both gentle and very wise. She loved to enjoy a cup of tea and always had room for a cookie or two. Her love for animals and children was well known. Bingo on Tuesdays and Thursdays was one of the highlights of her week, along with an occasional shuffleboard game and bowling. We wish to thank the staff at Vista Park Lodge, a place that was truly home to Mom, as well as the nurses and doctors on the 4th Floor of the Victoria General Hospital. The best in each of us, comes from you Mom. You influenced our lives to make good and wise decisions, take care of ourselves and be kind to others. You inspired us all with your profound strength and resilience. Your wants were small but your presence was huge. We will always remember and miss you. Until we meet again, enjoy your cup of tea with Gran. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Winnipeg Humane Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation or any other charity worthy of Mom's memorium. Funeral service celebrating Eileen's life will be held on Tuesday, November 30 at 1:00 p.m. in the Windsor Park United Church, 1062 Autumnwood Drive. The Coutu Family in care arrangements: E.J.
