HELEN THORNE 1922 2010 Helen peacefully passed away at the Transcona Park Manor on December 6th. Helen was married to the love of her life, Gordon Thorne, in 1956 until Gord passed away in 2001. She is will be dearly missed by her loving brother, Sandy Cherrie (Betty), sister-in-law, Helen Thorne of Calgary, cousin Sheena of Scotland and many nieces and nephews. Helen was born in Airdrie, Scotland, immigrating to Canada during the flood of l950. During the war, she served with the WAAF's section of the RAF as a teleprinter operator for five years from 1940 until 1945. She will be remembered as a diligent and hard worker at the Winnipeg Tribune, MTS, retiring after working many years for the Provincial Government, Vital Statistics department. She lived a full life and enjoyed many activities such as the Eastern Star and was a fond and active member of the Daughters of the Nile. She will be remembered as a great supporter of the Khartum Temple Pipes Drums. Whenever the band was going on a trip, Helen always made sure they had enough fresh baked buttered scones to last the trip. A memorial service celebrating Helen's life was held at Transcona Park Manor on Friday, December 10, 2010 at 10:00 a.m.. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Helen's name would be gratefully accepted at a charity of your choice. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at Transcona Park Manor for their care and compassion.
