KEVIN JOHN PURVIS June 16, 1968 - December 17, 2010 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Kevin John Purvis after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Kevin passed away December 17, 2010 at the Selkirk General Hospital at the age of 42. Kevin was predeceased by his father Roy Vance Purvis. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Pamela; son Jack (13); great-nephew Gage (7); his mother Stephanie Purvis; his brothers and their families David, Karen, Ben, Shelby Fletcher, Trena, Ethan, and Camryn; goddaughter Madison Steinke and her brother Andrew Steinke, along with countless other family and friends who were blessed to know him. Kevin grew up and settled in Selkirk, MB. He started his career as a letter carrier for Canada Post in 1989, delivering mail downtown Winnipeg and in Selkirk. He will be fondly remembered as the Good Looking Postman, in his shorts . In 2003 Kevin became a member of the Selkirk Fire Department. He was very proud to be among such a wonderful group of men whose immeasurable support has made these past three years more bearable for us all. Kevin was a very passionate hockey dad. His greatest pride came with being at the rink watching Jack play hockey. We are sure you can still hear the echo of him yelling Jack Skate! Kevin touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity and maintained his Trademark sense of humour all the way to the end. At this time Kevin's family would like to thank Dr. B. Stacey, Dr. B. Yip, Dr. R. Wong, Dr. R. Lindenschmidt, St. Boniface CancerCare, his home care nurse Heather, and the staff at the Selkirk General Hospital for their excellent care and support. Kevin's family would like to invite you to attend his Memorial Service on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 6088 PTH 9A. Luncheon to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion #42, 403 Eveline St., Selkirk, MB. Cremation has already taken place and honorary pallbearers will be his brothers Fletcher and David Purvis, his friends Chris Mihalchuk, Curtis Kubay, and Jeff Penner, and the members of the Selkirk Fire Department. Donations can be made in his honour to a charity of your choice or one of Kevin's choice charities, CancerCare Manitoba, Kids Sport, or the Firefighters Burn Fund.
