SHIRLEY BERNICE PORTEOUS March 16, 1931 - December 25, 2010 With heavy hearts we announce the untimely passing of our mother and grandmother. Surrounded by loved ones throughout her last days Mum so very bravely started her journey home. The gentle little lady with the ever present sense of humour had a wonderful gift of taking away our troubles, easing our pain and making us laugh. Mum had uncommon courage, strength and resolve which stayed with her to the end. Mum was a proud volunteer for CancerCare for many years. Who knew that this would be the disease which would take her from us. To My Family I go from you gently for it is my time, To take the next step in this journey of mine Don't grieve for me long - I've not left you alone For I will be with you In the love that we've known That love is forever, And some day when it's time You'll join me again, on this journey of mine. Our family would like to thank the Victoria Hospital's Dr. Eschun and ICU nursing staff, the 5th floor nursing staff, and Dr. Wowk whose care and compassion for our mother sustained us through this most difficult time. Respecting Mum's wishes, cremation has taken place. No formal service will be held.
