MARK LINN PURDY After a courageous battle with cancer, Mark Linn Purdy, age 65, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2011. Mark leaves to mourn his loving wife Nicole, his two sons, Kyle and Donald who were the light of his life, his sister Maureen (Albert) Bearham, nephew David (Karen), niece Wendy (Duncan), great-nephews Ian, Thomas and Matthew, great niece Emma, Aunt Irene, and many cousins; as well as his brother-in-law Don (Judy) Lafreniere and nephew James. He was predeceased by his parents, Maud and Bertram as well as his in-laws, Herman and Adrienne Lafreniere. Mark was born on April 18, 1945 in Rickmansworth, Herts in England. On leaving school, he worked as an apprentice to a shoe maker. He soon discovered his life's career and joined the London Bus Service. He immigrated to Canada in 1975 where he began as a bus driver with Winnipeg Transit. He began working with the Amalgamated Transit Union, and made many lifelong friends. He was promoted to Transportation Supervisor in 1985 and to Operations Superintendent in 1993. Mark retired in 2008, and his life took a new direction. He volunteered at his sons' school frequently and went on many field trips and fun lunches'. He volunteered at the Parish of St. Timothy, teaching catechism. This is where he found his faith in God, in the eyes of the children he taught. Many thanks to the kind staff at CancerCare, and the Palliative Care Staff as well as Dr. Volpe and Dr. Lu. Olga you will never know how much you mean to us. Mark you taught us what it means to be loved, and we will never forget you. A funeral mass will be held in the Parish of St. Timothy, 135 John Forsyth Road on Saturday, February 12 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Phil Daley officiating. Should friends so desire, memorial donations in Mark's memory may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation Inc., 675 McDermot Ave., RM. ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 9Z9.
