ANN ODAISKY It is with great sadness, after a brief illness, that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and friend, Ann Odaisky, on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 just as the sun was rising. Ann was born in June, 1928 in Olha, Manitoba to Andrew and Pauline Bubij Bubbey . Ann was the youngest sister to Peter, Mary and Stella, and grew up on the family homestead farm. After graduating from high school in Rossburn, she taught school in rural Manitoba. After moving to Winnipeg, she married Nick Odaisky in 1951. They celebrated 41 years of marriage before his passing in 1992. Ann enjoyed living independently, in her own home, gardening, walking for her groceries and shoveling snow - right until she went into the hospital. She was grateful to have been blessed with good health her whole life. Ann enjoyed working as a seamstress for well over 30 years, working well into her 70s for the Ukrainian Orthodox Consistory, sewing vestments for Priests, Bishops and the Metropolitan across Canada, and worldwide. Ann was actively involved with the church community for 60 years, and enjoyed the many friendships she made and maintained. She continued to volunteer at the church preparing pyrohy up to this past winter. Ann was also a very talented artist, having had two art shows. We, her family, feel fortunate to have so many fabulous pieces of art as keepsakes of her. Ann's genuine smile was her trademark. She was warm and friendly, kind and considerate, unassuming and down-to-earth. As a result, she made friends wherever she went. We have been very fortunate to have had such a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother in our lives. We all have so many warm memories of our experiences together. Mom was always game for a good time. Even after turning 80, she continued to enjoy swimming, swinging, kayaking, skiing, tobogganing, and sailing. She recently traveled to Halifax, and rode on a Harley. She was able and willing to keep up with any of us. Grama / Baba was very proud of and very involved in the lives of her grandchildren - Jordan and Joel Scott, Brett and Nicola Odaisky, Danika and Dylan Odaisky, and Anika Oepkes. Ever so grateful for the cherished memories are Janice and Jeff Scott, Gordon and Bonnie Odaisky, Debby and Ken Oepkes, and David and Susan Odaisky. Special thanks to the staff on N3E at Concordia Hospital for the care and support provided during Mom's time in the hospital. Service will be held at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street on Wednesday, February 16 at 2:00 p.m. Flowers are gratefully declined. Should friends so wish, please donate to a charity of their choice, in Ann's name.
