MARION PATERSON THORNTON Peacefully on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, Marion, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away at the Douglas Campbell Lodge at the age of 79 years, with her family by her side. With many cherished memories, Marion will be greatly missed by her son Rob (Jackie); daughters Linda and Susan; grandchildren Alistair and Gillian; and numerous family members and friends. Marion was predeceased by her husband Bob, and parents Susan and Walter Cross. Marion was born at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg. At the age of 17, she graduated from a business school in Edmonton and eventually relocated to Regina to work as a secretary. After a while Mom moved to Toronto to attend Emmaus Bible School, and upon completion returned to Winnipeg. Marion married the love of her life, Bob Thornton in 1957. They celebrated 53 years of marriage until Bob passed away in September 2010. Marion and Bob lived most of their lives together on a farm in the Mill Creek District with later years spent in Oakville and Portage la Prairie. Marion was very devoted wife, mother and grandma. She loved spending time with her family. Over the years, Marion could be found at many concerts, school and sporting events involving her kids and grandchildren, potluck suppers and church functions. Marion's faith was important to her. She was a faithful member of Fortier Gospel Chapel. She was involved in many ways including teaching Sunday School. Mom was also involved with Faith Bible Camp as a counselor and cook. Marion had been residing at Douglas Campbell Personal Care Home as a result of Parkinson's Disease. She dealt with the Parkinson's courageously. Mom will be remembered mostly for her love of family. Other memories of Mom include her amazing cooking, singing, love of fun and great sense of humour. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Douglas Campbell Lodge for their kindness, support and tremendous care. The family would also like to express their appreciation to Dr. Finney at the Portage Clinic for his many years of care. Interment and graveside service will be held on Monday, February 21 at 11:00 a.m. in the Oakville Cemetery. A celebration in memory of Marion will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, at Highway Tabernacle, 1680 Saskatchewan Ave. West, Portage la Prairie. If friends so desire, Memorial Donations to the Parkinson's Society of Manitoba, 302-171 Donald Street Winnipeg, MB would be appreciated.
