LLOYD GEORGE PRITCHARD February 22, 1917 - April 24, 2011 It is with great sadness that the family of Lloyd Pritchard announces his passing, at the age of 94, at Grace Hospital. Lloyd entered the hospital in December with the inability to swallow. He fought that and conquered the two bouts of pneumonia that followed. He was doing extremely well and was looking forward to placement in Long Term Care joining his wife of 70 years. On the evening of April 18, 2011 a blood clot in his lung would be the beginning of his last battle. Lloyd is survived by his wife, Dylis, his daughter, Wendy, and son-in-law, Dennis Bethscheider and niece, Elaine (Allan) Nash. Lloyd was the youngest of three sons born to Adeline and Albert Pritchard. He spent his early years in Winnipeg enjoying summers at the Winnipeg Beach cottage. His family moved to Vancouver where Lloyd joined the Duke of Connaught's Own Rifles. Lloyd's family moved back to Winnipeg after the death of his father. Lloyd then joined the Lord Strathcona Horse Cadets and later the Royal Winnipeg Rifles. When the Second World War broke out Lloyd joined the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry and shipped out to England. On his first leave he went to visit relatives in the small Welsh town of Aberdare. It was there that he met the love of his life, Dylis Williams. They were married on March 23, 1941. Lloyd's unit was then sent to Scotland and deployed to the Invasion of Sicily. During fierce combat, Lloyd was seriously wounded. From a British hospital in Malta he was eventually shipped home to Deer Lodge Hospital. Dylis followed as a War Bride. When Wendy was born in 1949, the family moved to Elmwood where many years of happy memories were cultivated. Lloyd was employed by the Federal Government, Department of Revenue for over 30 years. Lloyd was a wonderful husband and father. Family life came first. He was a great handyman. He was a hobby builder and loved bike riding, cars and gardening. Lloyd supported Wendy in everything she did and was a very important part of her Baton Twirling days. When his beloved Dylis was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2002 and entered Kildonan Personal Care Centre, Lloyd decided to move to The Wellington where he enjoyed life for the last eight years. Lloyd Pritchard was a very special man. His grace, humour and gentleness will forever remain with those who knew him. Thank you to the many friends who have been so supportive. Also, a huge thank you goes to the staff of Grace Hospital, Fourth Floor South. They treated Lloyd like family and gave him peace, comfort, respect and dignity in his passing. A Celebration of Life, Come and Go Reception will take place on Saturday, May 7, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Thomson In The Park , 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lloyd's name to the charity of your choice.
