HELENE ELISABETH POPP (nee WORSTER) March 21, 1926 - May 4, 2011 Peacefully on May 4, 2011, at Charleswood Care Centre, our beloved mother passed away with family by her side. Helene will be forever cherished and remembered by her son Russell, and daughter-in-law Pat; sisters, Eva Mosley (Edward) and Margaret Russell (James) of Winnipeg, Marlene Shand (Thomas) of Beausejour, Manitoba; sister-in-law Pauline Nichols of Winnipeg and brother-in-law Frederick Pope, of Calgary, Alberta, as well as several nieces and nephews. Helene was predeceased by her husband Russell in 1987, her father Henry Worster in 1989, her mother Katherine in 1991, sister Eleanor Marks, brother-in-law Lorne Marks, sister Marie Scowby and brotherin-law Vern Scowby. In her younger years while growing up in Winnipeg's North End, Helene enjoyed curling, bowling, badminton and volleyball. In the 1970s she moved to Transcona and created a loving and lovely home for her two Russ's and herself. They spent many happy times together at their cottage on Bird Lake and she missed the cottage very much during her last few years when ill health prevented her from going. Helene worked for Scott-Bathgate Ltd., Canadian Co-op Implements, and for 28 years for CAE Aircraft Ltd., starting as a general office clerk and retiring in 1983 as Personnel Administrator. She enjoyed immensely working in the Personnel field, which gave her the opportunity to meet many different people. Helene was a true lady, nice to everyone she met, and no matter how poorly she felt in her later years, she always took the time to make sure her appearance was flawless. She developed a great skill for baking, especially German bierocks and all the Christmas goodies, and made the absolute best pie crust. She greatly enjoyed the companionship of several dogs, especially Brandi and Cindy. The family would like to thank the medical professionals who treated Helene, as well as all the caring, compassionate staff at Charleswood Care Centre, where she resided over the past 10 months. Cremation has taken place. In accordance with Helene's wishes, no formal service will be held. The family would like to invite you for a gathering of remembrance at Glen Lawn Reception Centre, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. Flowers are gratefully declined, but those who so desire may make donations in Helene's memory to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation or Canadian Diabetes Association. Thank you, Mom, for all you've done for us and the support you've given us. We will forever miss you. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca.
