Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLILLY THOMPSON (nee PETERSEN) August 28, 1922 - June 1, 2011 Suddenly on Wednesday, June 1, Lilly passed away with family by her side at the Victoria General Hospital. Her death arose from complications associated with dementia and congestive heart failure. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert, exactly one year ago as of June 3. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Judith (Werner), Lindsay (Chris), Karen (James); her grandchildren, Andrea, Stuart (Suzie), Jordan, Braden; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Shawn; sisters, Gerda, Anne, Margaret; sisters-in-law, Florence and Helen, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Ella and August; brothers, Victor and Paul; sister Evelyn; brothers-in-law, Joe, Art, Norman, Rae Snr., Edwin; sisters-in-law, Doreen, Kathy, Polly; and nephew Rae Jnr. Lilly was born in Komarno in 1922, and moved to St. James in 1927. In 1937 the family moved to Fort Whyte where Lilly graduated from grade 11 in 1939. After graduation, she went to Success Business College and at age 19 began to work at Swifts as a comptometer operator. In 1946, she wed Robert Thompson, also of Fort Whyte, and they were married for 64 years as of May 16, 2010. Family was the center of Mom's life. After marrying Dad, she devoted her life to cooking, cleaning and baking. When she and Dad got away from us kids, they would bowl, or go to the legion to play bingo. By herself, Mom loved to do the crossword and listen to Saturday Afternoon at the Opera. As we grew up, there was never a day when we left home in the morning without a kiss goodbye, nor a tucking into bed without a goodnight kiss. Funeral service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, on Thursday, June 9 at 2:00 p.m. Flowers are gratefully declined; however, donations may be made in Lilly's name to a charity of your choice.
