JANIS ARNOLDS PREIMANIS 1910 - 2011 Janis passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at the Grace General Hospital at the age of 100 and nine months. Janis is survived by his wife Nalija; stepdaughter Silvija (Ansis) Stasus; step-grandson Rudolf (Karen), step-great-granddaughter Kaelyn Stasus; step-granddaughter Aldija Stasus (Dale Morrissette); nephew Aldis and family in Latvia. He was predeceased by his parents and sister in Latvia. Janis was born August 28, 1910, Burtniekos, Latvia. He was mobilized and served in the Latvian army during the Second World War. After the war he immigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg. Here he worked in the construction trade but retired from the Manitoba Provincial Government as a labourer. Janis was an active and lifelong member in the Latvian Daugavas Vanagu Legion. The family would like to thank the staff of 3 South at the Grace Hospital for the compassionate care given to Janis and family. Also thank you to all the home care workers who took care of Janis. Funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery).
