Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD OLIVER HENRY April 13, 1947 - July 19, 2011 It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family and friends of Donald Oliver Henry announce his sudden passing while playing baseball on July 19, 2011. Don leaves to mourn, his partner and soul mate, Cheryl Dnes and her family, Dan and wife Jill and grandchild Damian. He will also be sadly missed by his brothers, Terry, Allan, Paul, Brian and David. Don was predeceased by his mother, Margaret (Peggy) Ida Smith, whom he loved dearly. Don was born in Galt, Ontario on April 13, 1947. He joined the Army and was with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in Germany from 1965 to 1967. He left the Forces and moved to Winnipeg where he has since lived, making many friends. His personality and outgoing manner helped him in his successful career in sales. Many will remember Don through employment with the Manitoba Liquor Control Commission, Carnation Foods, Chateau Gay Wines, Gilbeys, Re/Max, Great West Heating and Reliance Superior Heating and Cooling. Don loved baseball. He pitched for Town & Country Whips where the team won the League Championship in 1977. Don was one of the best windmill pitchers in the league with a super change up. He played for Club 3D in the Crestview Men’s Fastball League for over 30 years where he thoroughly enjoyed the friendship and respect of his team mates. He and Cheryl have many fond memories of leisure time spent at Victoria Beach and Kenora with friends and relatives. They loved to travel and they enjoyed many winter vacations in Cuba, Mexico and the Dominican Republic with their group of close friends. Don’s happiest moments were times spent with the grandchildren. He always said his greatest gift was to have the grandkids reaching out to him and calling him "Papa". He loved watching the boys play hockey. Don will be sadly missed by all who were fortunate to know this outgoing, fun loving, caring person who placed such a high value on family and friends. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint). Donations may be made in Don’s memory to Camp Manitou.
