Date of Passing: Oct 14, 2011
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRAYMOND FRANKLIN THORNSON (May 15, 1934 - October 14, 2011) It is with great sadness that Ray's family announce his sudden passing. Ray was predeceased by parents, Betty and Thomas Thornson; wife Bette; son Mark and brother Barry. Left to mourn his passing, daughter, Shawn; grandchildren Jesse and Kaylea; daughter-in-law, Sharlene; grandchildren Nicole and Alex; brothers Leonard (Marg) and Doug (Vicky); sister Shirley; numerous nieces and nephews; lifelong friend, Gil Goodman and special friends and companions, Mel and Elaine Tichborne. Ray, born and raised in Winnipeg, was an accomplished mason whose work still remains in Winnipeg, Selkirk and surrounding areas. Ray and Tony Turnman joined Wynn Solvason and Bunny Cooper as partners in Fial Masonry in 1974. It was there he met Bette and eventually the two married, making Ray an instant father to a 16 and 17 year old. Later, after the other partners retired, Ray, along with his son Mark, continued operating the business as Thornson Masonry. Ray was a gentle giant of a man with a heart of gold. He was a caring, supportive son to his parents in their later years, a wonderful, patient father; and a great friend to all who knew him. A Celebration of his life will take place on Friday, October 28, at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, MB. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made in Ray's name to the palliative care unit at Selkirk General Hospital. So when tomorrow starts without me, don't think we're far apart, For every time you think of me, please know I'm in your heart. Rest in peace Grampa Ray; You will never be forgotten. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
