GLADYS ETHEL MARGARET THOMAS (nee CLEMENT) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Gladys, age 77, on December 30, 2011. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Richard; her parents Charles and Freda; and sister Clare. She is survived by her children Darlene (Scott), Valerie, Erik, Jennifer (Tom) and Brent (Tina); grandchildren Claire, Sarah, Brittney, Lauren, Grant, Ryan, Andrew, Tyler, Stephan and Zak; and one great-grandchild Koston. She is also survived by her brother Ron Clement, brother-in-law Blake Stubbs, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mom was born in Winnipeg on September 19, 1934. She attended Wellington and General Wolfe schools. After school she enjoyed working in the Eaton's credit department. She then married her first husband Ron Dee, who was in the R.C.A.F. and they travelled extensively throughout Europe and Canada. Her oldest daughters Darlene and Valerie were born in France and Quebec. After her separation, she met her new husband Richard Thomas in California. They had their oldest son Erik and returned to Winnipeg, where she adopted Jennifer, and then they had their youngest son, Brent. Gladys loved opera, and attended every Manitoba Opera production with her brother Ron, since its inception in 1972. She also enjoyed her game shows. She loved animals and was a faithful supporter of the Winnipeg Humane Society. In her later years she enjoyed shopping and having luncheons with her many friends. A special thank you to her friend Stephen Bilik, for his wonderful friendship to our Mom in her later years. Mom was a very devoted Mother, and enjoyed spending time with her youngest granddaughter, Ryan. She was very independent and had a wonderful memory. She gave us all a lifetime of love and will be missed by all who touched her. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3, or to Siloam Mission, 300 Princess St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 1M3.
