ERNEST (EDWARD) BRUNO It is with deep sadness I announce the passing of my only sibling, my brother, Edward on January 23, 2012 at the St. Boniface General Hospital. Edward was born in Winnipeg on October 30, 1929. At the age of four he moved to Morris with his mother and sister. All his school years were spent there. In his youth he was very active with swimming, baseball, hockey and curling. In 1947 Edward attended Success Business College studying Business Administration. However, he did not pursue this as a career. Edward joined MTS in 1948, working in various capacities, travelling the province. In 1955 MTS opened an engineering office in Brandon and he was one of the 10 employees chosen as an Engineer Assistant. In 1958 Edward married Shirley Clearwater and from this union there were two children. The family lived in Brandon until August of 1966 when they moved to Calgary. Edward immediately was hired as an Engineer Planner with the Alberta Government Telephones. During his Calgary years he was very involved in coaching hockey and soccer to 12 year olds. Later he coached Women's Senior Baseball where they won many awards and he was named Coach of the Year several times. In 1981 he bought a business in Victoria. While there he entered into a relationship and a son was born. Not liking the coastal weather, Edward returned to Winnipeg in 1985 where he remained until his passing. During his years in Winnipeg he was very much involved with various Crib Clubs where he met and made many strong friendships, friends who will miss him enormously. The family would like to thank the Elmwood Legion especially Ron, Leo and Dan for their cards, calls and visits to the hospital. Left to mourn Edward's passing are his children: Darryl and Lesa of Calgary and Joel of Victoria; his sister Marion with whom he resided; as well as his special pet, Harley. He also leaves three grandchildren: Grant, Mika and Zachary all of Calgary. Following Edward's wishes cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held at this time. A private graveside service will take place in the summer with Edward's beloved family and close friends to bid him farewell. The family wishes to thank the St. Boniface health care team for all they did for Edward. He was well taken care of and never alone. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire donations are greatly appreciated and may be made in Edward's memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3T 0R3. Rest in Peace Edward, we love and miss you. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E. J. COUTU CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 680 Archibald St. 253-5086 ejcoutu.com
