Date of Passing: Jan 25, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARTHA MARY CASSELS (nee BOCKSTAEL) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Martha Cassels on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at the age of 79 years. Martha was predeceased by her husband, Tom on November 11, 2011, and her sister, Laura Duguay of Gatineau, Quebec. Martha will be lovingly remembered by her three sons: Ron (Dorotea), Jen and Alex; David (Jill) of Vancouver, Melanie and Garret; Jim, Zach, Brandon and Madison; her two brothers and sisters-in-law: Ted and Sharon Bockstael, and Alan and Jackie Bockstael, brother-in-law Ray and Janine Duguay of Gatineau, Quebec, and sister-in-law Janet Sekora of Vancouver as well as many nephews, nieces and other family and friends. Martha was born in Winnipeg in 1932 and grew up in St. Boniface. She married Tom in 1953 and had three boys. In 1966 Martha and Tom bought their house in Windsor Park where they resided on Hansford Road for 45 years before moving to Seine River Retirement Residence in September of 2011. Martha's love of cottage life began at the Nutimik Lake family cottage in 1954 and then her own cottage at Lester Beach for the last 42 years. Pancakes, cards, happy hours, friends, and large family dinners were a staple at the cottage. Everyone knew that there was always room at the table and a bed somewhere when you showed up, even unexpectedly. Mom loved her bowling, garden, all sports on TV, casino trips, restaurants and her Ladies Club group. Most of all she loved her grandchildren and took pride in all their accomplishments. Mom was diagnosed with cancer in April of 2011 and was not able to defeat the disease. She will be missed by many but, remember that a meal and a bed will always be available at the Beach for her friends. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating her life will be held for her family and close friends at a later date. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E. J. COUTU CO.
