WILLIAM A. DURANT April 20, 1935 - January 29, 2012 With his family by his side, William (Bill) passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2012 at the age of 76. Bill will lovingly be remembered by his wife of 48 years, Dora (nee Clairmont), children Karen (Glenn) Tisdall, Derek, Dianne (Albert) Ramm, Jacqueline (Brad) Thompson, and grandchildren Eric and Matthew Tisdall, Chloe and Trey Ramm, Aidan and Owen Thompson. Also remembered by sisters Theresa (Jack) McGee, Jeanette Durant, Christine Niziol, sisters-in-law Marielle (Ray) Trudel, Madeleine (Bill) Manveiler, brothers-in-law Ernest Lindner, Edward Stoner, Norman Clairmont, Denis Verrier, and numerous nieces, nephews, and vast, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by parents, Eva (nee Rowley) and Alfred Durant, sisters Pauline Tetsall, Lorraine Lindner, Patricia Stoner, sister-in-law Julia Verrier, brothers-in-law Robert Provost, Jim Niziol, Fred Tetsall, nephews Robert Lindner and Robert Trudel. Bill was born in St. Boniface and grew up in St. Norbert. Starting in 1953, Bill was employed with Bristol Aerospace. Over his 47 year career, Bill worked as a milling machine operator, and aircraft radio mechanic, an electrical and instrumentation installer, but was best known for his welding skills and abilities. As a welder, Bill was responsible for the production, repair and overhaul of numerous components of many different types of military, commercial and private aircraft. At home he was a jack-of-all-trades spending many hours designing, building, fixing or modifying anything that was required to make life easier or better for his family and friends. He was devoted to his family and loved spending time with them, whether it be traveling, going to the lake, or hosting family gatherings. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the staff at the Sherbrook Dialysis Unit and the Health Sciences Centre Dialysis Unit on the 6th Floor for their exemplary care over the years. The family would also like to thank the nursing staff on GA4 at the Health Sciences Centre for their compassion and dedication to Bill during his stay. Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Wheeler Funeral Chapel, 211 Regent Ave. West. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, February 3, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at the St. Vital Catholic Church, 1629 Pembina Hwy., with Father Barry Schoonbaert presiding, with interment at a later date. Donations may be made in Bill's name to the Kidney, or Heart and Stroke Foundation. Funeral Arrangements in care of WHEELER FUNERAL CHAPEL 211 REGENT AVE. WEST AT BOND 224-1525

  • I am saddened by the loss of a good friend from dialysis. My thoughts and prayers are with Dora and her family today even though I could not go to the funeral.   • Dear Durant Family, We are deeply saddened by William's passing. He was a wonderful man and loved you all with all his being. We will always remember him as a kind and gentle man with a big smile and a kind word to all. The only comfort we all have is that he is up above in God's hands and is in no pain. William will be missed greatly but his memmory will always be with us. May God bless you all with His Love and Compassion, to help you through this difficult time.
