DOREEN TOUTANT September 20, 1932 - February 25, 2012 After a lengthy illness, our beloved Auntie Dodie surrendered her soul to our Lord on February 25, 2012 at the age of 79 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Rene and Helen Toutant and also by her two brothers Gerald and Raynald. Doreen will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by sister Aleta (Tim), sisters-in-law Eva and Yvonne, nephew Tim Jr. (Connie), nieces Cindy (Terry), Andrea (Kyle), Shari and Annette as well as grand nieces and nephews David, Ben Sean, and Aliya, Jessica and Christopher, Devin and Darin and many friends and relatives. Doreen was born in Treherne, MB. Following her completion of high school, she was employed by T.C.A. (later Air Canada) for 10 years. She then decided to follow her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse and graduated from St. Boniface Hospital in January 1964. To her great pride she was awarded the medal for General Proficiency, the highest recognition attainable. Doreen's aspirations led her into the field of cardiology at H.S.C., from which she retired in 1991 after a most successful 27 year nursing career. Following retirement, Doreen cherished her many years spent at Betula Lake. She relocated in Winnipeg in 2006 where she continued her activities with Whirlaway square dancers, Red Hatters as well at catering to her dog Chico! Her loyalty, generosity, faith and acceptance of her destiny has been an inspiration to all who knew her, especially during her final days. Funeral service will be officiated by Father Fred Olds on Friday, March 2 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 820 Cottonwood Dr., Winnipeg. Prayers will take place on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Chapel, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg. The family would like to extend a very special Thank You to the staff at Grace Hospice for the exceptional care she received. Their kindness, support, and sincere compassion will be ever appreciated. Doreen has requested that if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave. R3A 1P6. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca. When you think back on your life you might fondly remember those who made a major impression on your life. Doreen was one of those he helped me and pointed me onto the right track. I’ve been thinking a lot of her lately and glad, but also sad, to have found her here. What a great down to earth lady. Fond memories on her and the F3 gang. If I could only say one thing to Doreen it would be “thank you!” David Nash White Rock, BC - Posted by: David Nash (Friend and Colleague at HSC Cardiology) on: Mar 23, 2023

Each Christmas since 1975 Doreen and I exchanged notes. Last year she mentioned the Hospice House. This year I missed her cheery note. She was a special long distance friend. She Helped me allot when I was a young X-RAY Tech. and new to the cath. lab. I always appreciated her kindness and friendship. - Posted by: Marion Freund (Friend from cardiac cath. lab at H.S.C.) on: Dec 23, 2012

Doreen and I met through the Women of the Whiteshell Red Hatters, and enjoyed many activities and lunches while the group existed. She took us square dancing one evening. Down to earth, positive and thoughtful, Doreen was well liked. When illness struck she faced it without flinching. She had to adjust to many drastic changes, but was able to meet these with grace, candor, and surprising gratitude. You were special, Doreen, and it is a privilege to have known you. Sincere condolences to Aleta and the family. - Posted by: Inge Scholte (friend from Dorothy Lake) on: Mar 01, 2012
