AUDREY GLADYS KEENES (nee MORLEY) It is with the most the profound sadness we announce the death of our mother, grandmother, and sister, Audrey Gladys Keenes, on Friday, February 24, 2012. Predeceased by her father (Harold), mother (Daisy), and husband (Ernie), she leaves to miss her deeply and mourn her passing, sister Lillian Whitehill (Peter), sons Ernie (Laurie) and Doug (Heather), and beloved grandchildren Spencer and Hannah. Audrey was born May 20, 1927 and lived most of her life in Transcona. She said she felt a bit of a traitor when, for the past year-and-a-half, she moved away from Transcona to the Concordia Village assisted living community. However, a kind and outgoing person, Audrey quickly made many new friends and enjoyed community life in her new home. Mum was very good with numbers and worked in the cash office at the bank and for several years at Eatons. She recalled often the long trip she took on the R.M.S. Ascania, after graduation from high school, to meet relatives in England. Mum and dad were avid five-pin bowlers, and spent many long summers with family at the cottage at Ingolf. They traveled widely for hockey, and after dad's retirement on long bus trips to the east and to Florida. Mum and dad visited Vancouver Island several times, and spent many happy days walking and testing fish and chips. Mum was an avid sports fan. She went to many Jets games with dad at the old arena, was a keen analyst of curling on television, despaired over the performance of the Blue Jays with her sister, and had a special place in her heart for Goldie and the Goldeyes. In lieu of flowers donations may be made on mum's behalf to the Winnipeg Humane Society. Cremation has taken place and mum will join dad at Transcona Cemetery, with thanks for arrangements by Wheeler Funeral Chapel. The funeral will be held Saturday March 10, 11:00 a.m., at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 708 McCalman, Winnipeg.
