DONALD ROBERT PRETEAU 1955 - 2012 It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Don at age 56 years at Morton Plantar Hospital in Clearwater, Florida on Sunday, February 26, 2012. Don will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 36 years, Wilma and son Robert. He also leaves to mourn his sisters Celine Shewchuk (Peter), Yolande Delorme (Jack), Georgette Tetrault (Richard) and brothers Rene Preteau (Betty) and Normand Preteau (Rose) as well as his cousin and best friend Ron and Ida Allaire, tante Jeannine, sisters and brothers-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Don was predeceased by his parents Denise and Aubert Preteau, sisters-in-law Marie-Paule and Monique and parents-in-law Anthony and Johanna Groot Koerkamp. Don was born August 27, 1955 in St. Malo but lived in Winnipeg most of his life. Don married his high school sweetheart, Wilma (Groot Koerkamp) in 1975 and a few years later his son Robert was born which was a very happy and proud day. Don was a kind, caring, loving and devoted husband, father and brother. He will always be loved and forever missed. During his career, Don worked as a manager for the Winnipeg Free Press for 26 years and then as a manager for Shaw Cable for 12 years. As a manager, Don always strived to be fair and to treat people with respect. Don had just semi-retired last year and was enjoying working in sales for 4 Seasons Heating and Cooling. Working part-time enabled him to realize his dream and spend January and February in Florida. The family would like to extend their thanks to the emergency EMT, the ER doctors and nurses at Morton Plantar Hospital in Clearwater, Florida for their efforts. Also special thanks to Chaplain Sister Phyllis Shaughnessy, ER nurse Katie, Peri Craven, Jody Nicholson and Sheila Farago. Funeral arrangements pending. • We were all shocked to hear of the sudden passing of Don. He was known to us as "Porky". Our hearts go out to Wilma and Robert. - Posted by: Lucy Daeninck and all the girls from Louis Riel Collegiate (high school friends) on: Mar 22, 2012

  • When I read Terri Pitzel's guest book entry, I smiled to myself. I was only 11 yrs old when Wilma and Don met (they were 16) and I had no idea that all this "sneaking around" was going on! I remember our Mom and Dad being very concerned that their marriage would never work because they were so young. They eventually stopped worrying.....! Don was in our lives for a long time and we are so very sad about his passing. Wilma and Robert: Glen, Heather, Michael and I are so sorry that we are away and will miss Don's service. It will be a sad day for all of us on Wednesday, as we remember Don. Lots of love to both of you and we are thinking of you. - Posted by: Anne Rattray (Groot-Koerkamp) (Wilma's Sister) on: Mar 19, 2012

  • Wilma, Robert, friends and family, I was so saddened to have just learned of Don's sudden passing. I previously worked for Shaw and Don and I worked in separate provinces but on the same team. He was always so kind, positive and great to work with. His staff always had many wonderful things to say about him. I'm sure that he will be missed by many, many people. May you find comfort in your memories of him. Shannon - Posted by: Shannon Chittick (Former co-worker) on: Mar 16, 2012

  • I lived on the same street as Wilma and we were in the same class. She, Marnie, Colette and I discovered the St B boys and we helped Wilma sneak out and phone him on the pay phone. She was in love and so was he. They courted courting in their high school years, us at SCA & JT, Don in St B. We would take a long bus ride to visit St B and when Don got a car - lookout! I have many great memories of those years. My heart goes out to Wilma and her son. - Posted by: Terri Pitzel. (Montagnon) (High School Aquaintancd) on: Mar 15, 2012

  • Don interviewed me for a position with the Winnipeg Free Press. I was hired the next day. Working with Don in the Circulation Department I always knew what we were doing today, tomorrow and 6 months in the future. He was a kind man not afraid to help and guide his staff. He will be missed. My prayers go out to the Preteau family. - Posted by: Linda Reichert (Co-worker - Winnipeg Free Press) on: Mar 14, 2012

  • We knew Don but for a short time. Both myself and Rose always looked forward and enjoyed meeting twice a week for coffee with Don & Wilma and also Ron & Ida. We will dearly miss our good friend Don but we will always cherish the warm moments we all had together. Don always exhibited kindness and respect towards others. There are no words that can take away the sadness that both yourself Wilma, and Robert feel, but may it help to know that we care and share your loss at this sad and difficult time. Our Deepest Sympathy...Barney and Rose - Posted by: Barney & Rose (Friends) on: Mar 11, 2012
